Unleash Your Inner Beauty!

This is a must for your make up routine

Is highlighter really necessary? It sure is, let me tell you why.

Highlighters help create a dewy, luminous, glowing look and truly makes your skin look radiant.

Used by professional make-up artists for decades, highlighters have become increasingly popular by mere mortals over the last 10 years.

When younger my two firm favourites were Benefit High beam and Nars Copacabana.

With the arrival of kids, the highlighter went out the window along with pretty much everything else. I only reintroduced it back into my routine a few years back and now cannot live without it. I don’t care, I like to glow day or night. It vamps up my look and gives me that glow I’m after.

It is best applied to the;

– cupid’s bow

– cheekbones

– down the bridge of your nose

– under your eyes to minimise dark circles and

– in the inner corner of your eyes and upper eyelid

I tend to stay away from shimmery products in favour of liquid ones which work best for me.

Fortunately for us there are so many different types of high lighter to choose from! Don’t be afraid of using one.  It’s not just for women under 35, we can use it too.

What are the different types of highlighters out there?

There are liquids, creams, powder or stick highlighters that also come in different colours. Silver, pearls and pink are best suited to fairer skins tones, peach and champagne work best for medium skins. For gorgeous darker skin go for gold, copper and bronze. GODDESS ALERT!

Should I go for cream, liquid or powder?

This is your choice. Personally, I love a cream highlighter as it glides onto skin and gives a natural look. Try different ones, head to a beauty store and seek advice. Sometimes, it’s trial and error.

How do I use a highlighter?

There are lots of ways and it’s also dependent of the texture of the highlighter. If I’m using a liquid I sometimes apply on bare skin before I put on my foundation. You can apply as the last product or even mix a little into your foundation. If using a powder, it’s best to apply with a fine make up brush.

No.1 –  Charlotte Tilbury Highlighter Wand Spotlight £29.00

I’ve been using this for a few years. It’s a “can’t live” without product and it’s often sold out. The result is brighter, luminous, dewy looking skin and the highlighted effect has no glitter which makes it perfect for daytime wear. You must try this!

No.2 – Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid, Pearl £21.00

I know the name has “shimmering” in it but it’s incredibly subtle. It’s a very soft, pretty highlighter that I use from time to time because my fave is the one above!

No.3 – Maybelline Master Chrome Extreme Highlighting Primer £8.99

I decided to include this one as it’s my new recent bargain buy. As you know, I like to watch Eman on youtube. She is a lovely warm American make-up artist. She used this in one of her tutorial’s and raved about it, so I gave it a go. Result, LOVED IT! With Charlotte Tilbury Highlighter Wand currently sold out I’m using this every day.
