Slay Those Dead Skin Cells!

Why regular exfoliation is a must for healthy glowing skin

Hopefully by now, you’ve got a great day and night skincare routine going on and you skin is looking fresh. Next up, exfoliation.

We all know that skin is the largest organ of our body but day to day living can take its toll and as we get older a little extra TLC is needed more.

Our skin cell turnover dramatically reduces with age which can cause our skin to become quite dull. The extra layers of dead skin can also make our skin look less hydrated. That’s where the action-busting serums and retinol come in. The next add-on should be exfoliation. We need to exfoliate to keep our skin glowing. Exfoliation helps slough away the dead skin cells to reveal brighter looking skin.

How many times should I exfoliate a week?

Get into a habit of exfoliating right after cleansing twice a week. Do not overdo it. Exfoliating more than that could be too harsh for your skin. I tend to exfoliate in the evening, with a face mask afterwards, so prepping my skin for retinol before bed. My skin always looks soft and silky the morning after.

My top 3 exfoliators.

No.1 – ZO Skin Health by Zein Obagi Exfoliating Polish – from £40

Presently, this is the only exfoliator I use. It’s the best one I’ve ever used, and it usually lasts me a year using twice a week. The magnesium crystals are perfect at exfoliating the skin without being too harsh. Regular use restores smoother texture and gives us that glow we need.

No.2 – Obagi Medical Exfoderm – £82

I went through a stage of using this Obagi product. It’s lightweight exfoliator that gets rid of those dead, dull skin cells revealing a more vibrant look. It definitely smoothes your skin and also contains Vitamin E. You do not wash this product off, you simply apply a thin layer to clean skin. However, it is quite pricey.

No.3 – Medik 8 Pore Refining Scrub – £25

This is a reasonably priced exfoliator that softens dry, rough skin. It contains mild AHAs that helps to remove dead skin and is suitable all for all skin types.
