It’s starting to get rather nippy outside and that means the central heating is getting ramped up in our homes, workplaces and wherever else we might frequent. As a result our gorgeous skin will need some extra TLC to help mitigate dry, dull, and parched looking skin.
There are a few things we can do to help maintain our healthy glow. The most important one that we all know by now is to drink water, ideally 2 litres per day. I remember my lovely skin lady telling me that there are great products out there however, drinking the recommended daily amount of water is THE best one thing that we can do to help keep our skin hydrated.
Water is your best friend!
I have recently purchased motivational reusable water bottles for my husband and two boys. It’s a novel approach as it has clever markings and sayings to encourage us to drink water throughout the day. In the morning my boys can’t wait to fill their bottles up and I feel the same. If you’re not great at drinking water maybe one of these bottles might encourage you to drink more.
Dry skin can highlight unwanted flaws such as fine lines, redness and patchy skin resulting in a tired appearance. And as we get older our oil and sweat glands become less active making it harder for our skin to stay hydrated. Fortunately, making a few simple changes to our skincare routine can make all the difference to help keep our skin looking moist and dewy.
Cleansers
Opting for a hydrating cleanser will ensure that your skin isn’t stripped of its natural moisture.
ZO Skin Health hydrating cleanser – This is pricey but it is one of my favourite ever cleansers
Caudalie Vinoclean Almond Cleansing Milk £11.25 – This milk cleanser gently lifts away make up and has a formula that locks in essential hydration. A fantastic value product.
Toners
The basic skincare routine that I used as a teenager of cleanse, tone and moisturise has thankfully evolved. Those toners of old, with alcohol filled formulas, that used to strip your skin are long gone.
Asian beauty brands, and Korean companies in particular, have long adopted a much less abrasive approach to skincare that has been influencing western companies, resulting in the release of hydration focused toning products. They tend to be much kinder to the skin, calming and soothing.
I’ve recently tried an inexpensive toner from Skin City that I’ve just finished and would recommend using. Try adding it to your morning routine. I usually apply two applications as I feel it helps increase the moisture in my skin.
Skin City Luminous Licorice Toner £20 – I originally bought the travel size as a tester. It was a great product and lasted months.
Fresh Rose Deep Hydrating Toner £21 – This product is a bestseller from their range and it’s packed with goodies to nourish your skin and create a suppleness.
Essence
This is a product that locks in moisture and helps other products to pass through the top layer of cells in your skin. An essence is a water-based product that contains a high content of active ingredients to hydrate, protect and boost the overall health of skin. It sounds good, doesn’t it? I love them and strongly recommend using one during winter. Take that dry skin!
And don’t be shy when using an essence, if you feel you need an extra application go for it. I do!
Beauty & Seoul Hanskin Hyaluron Skin Essence £34 – A truly hydrating product your skin will love.
Pureseoul Laniege Water Bank Hydro Essence £32.80 – This is a great brand and is known for its thirst-quenching products. An essence that will lock in hydration for a long-lasting glow.
Moisturisers
At this stage you should have applied toner and or essence, used your normal vitamin c and hyaluronic acid serum, leaving to last moisturiser.
Again, I’ve only recently started to add a moisturiser to my routine. It really does lock in all your products and finishes off your morning skincare routine.
Belif Aqua Bomb True Cream £41.50 – I am in love with this moisturiser. Its hydration properties are off the scale but sadly it’s a brand that’s hard to find in the UK.
Hyaluron Face Mist
This is a must-have-winter-product as one spray will give your skin an instant moisture hit. It is a product that you will use multiple times a day. Trust me, this will keep your skin hydrated throughout the day and there are lots of different brands to choose from as well as travel sized options.
Who wants parched looking skin, I don’t and nor do you!
Eucerin Hyaluron Spray £7.87 – This is my current spray I am using at the moment
